The Journey of mind to market involve many challenging intermediate steps. Whereas in our academic institutions, where minds are mentored, individual enterprises are engaged in competing globally in the market place for both share and accruable income. The conversions of knowledge into know-how, know-how into show-how, show-how into do-now into use-how call for mutually gainful partnership among various tiers of academy and industrial groups. The development of an effective mind to market chain is all about the building a powerful knowledge platform. In the emerging global knowledge economy, Nations like India with a tradition for distancing knowledge from wealth creation, require new models to link the knowledge infrastructure with that of wealth creation. This is best achieved by designing and development of an innovation infrastructure based on Public-Private- Partnership. Therefore, there is now a call on both public and private bodies to mount a viable innovation infrastructure, which will meet the growth aspirations of this great Nation. |

With technology driven entrepreneurship coming up in the country in a big way, the academia is bound to be more amenable to a closer interaction with industry.Besides, due to the presence of India as a global R&D and production hub this partnership has become much more imperative than it was ever before.Due to this, the accent for bringing the academia & Industry into the synergy or the partnership is becoming more and more lauder.
There is a need to create avenues for a close academia and Industry interaction through all the phases of technology development, starting from conceptualization down to commercialization. There are no assured markets for anyone in the world. There is a constant struggle to compete, which means that anyone running a business has to constantly upgrade his offerings & productivity. This is done largely by the employees of the company. So, their quality is central to a company’s competitiveness.
I congratulate B.R.Nahata College of pharmacy for opening a website on academia Industry which would have all the database indicating Academic and Industrial resources in the country and the various researches being done in the Industry vis-a vis Academic institutions and at the same time request the Indian Drug manufacturers’ to provide their valuable support in this Nation & Enterprise building endeavour. |

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT, MR. RANJIT SHAHANI, OPPI
|
Academia and Industry are like two sides of the same coin. They cannot exist and thrive in isolation. For this to be of value, there has to be a synergy between the two sides.
I am happy to learn about the initiative taken by National Science and Technology Management Information System (NSTMIS) a division of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to bring about a Academia / Industry linkage in Pharmaceutical sector.
Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI) which is a premier industry association of research based international and large Indian Companies has already initiated steps for industry I academia linkages in the form of a Research Report on “Corporate Social Responsibility of Pharmaceutical Companies in India” prepared in collaboration with S.P. Jam Institute of Management & Research. We have also commenced a “Healthcare and Pharmaceutical — Elective” course for MBA students at Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, a premier management institute in Asia. Several such initiatives are at conceptual stage. With Intellectual Property Rights (lPRs) regime now in place, innovation and research are going to be key strategic drivers for the growth of India’s knowledge economy. Academia which is a fertile ground for such creative and innovative minds, can play a significant role with the Industry to realise the full potential of this great opportunity.
I fully support your efforts to develop a National Database and forge academia industry partnership all over the country and across industries and send my best wishes for its success.
