About Project |
| |
In knowledge-based economies academia-Industry partnership plays pivotal role, which in turn, makes a country stand in the league of the developed nations.
The institutions are therefore considered as engines of development and are supposed to facilitate knowledge generation and manpower development in tandem with the need of the industry. |
| |
| In India, perhaps the partnership or synergy between academia and industry is almost missing. The reasons to it are- |
- The education system that English rulers enforced in the country did not have much scope for this type of collaboration to sprout
- The professional or technical education, which in real sense have scope for academia-industry tie-up was very spare in the country so far, it has just detonated to the required tune
- The red-tapism and academic bureaucracy did not allow timely alteration in the curriculum and academic practices, whereas, the pace of advancement in many sectors is so rapid that by the time the syllabi upgradation reaches to the students, it becomes outdated
|
| Nonetheless we pay a huge price for this i.e. by having our just-graduated manpower in not-ready-to-perform mode at one hand, and depending on the import of technology at the other. This occurrence is more widespread in research based areas where the research done in academic institutions is not translated in industrial realities, hence the institutes keep on starving for the funds, and the industry is forced to pay huge royalty for borrowing new technologies from advanced countries. |
| |
| Privatization and liberalization, and now perhaps the globalization, of the higher education are paving way to Academia-Industry partnership. Also, because of the emergence of India as Global R & D and Production hub, this partnership has become much more imperative then it was ever before. Because of this, the accent for bringing the academia and industry into the synergy or the partnership is becoming more and more lauder. Perhaps, it’s high time now that Academia-Industry Partnership is translated from the slogan to the reality. |
